This year’s wrestling team compiled a fair record, better than had been expected, and probably accounted for by the increased number of matches. With only four returning letter men, three of them in the upper weight classes, the team was left with inexperienced light weights. Experience, a requisite in wrestling, was gradually achieved by the increased number of matches. Comprising the light weights were Bill Rives, Frawley, McShane, Hoeffel, Keefe, and Solas. The returning lettermen were Maloney in the 133 pound class, McCormick, Skae, and Fisher. Bob Henerey rounded out the squad as heavy weight in his first year on the Varsity.
Near the end of the season, the team travelled to the New England Class C Championships in Watertown, Massachusetts. Wrestling against stiff competition, Maloney and Skae won gold and silver medals respectively. The tournament proved valuable to the younger wrestlers in supplying needed experience. The team greatly appreciates the efforts of the administration to make this trip possible.
The number of young wrestlers who made the Varsity, as well as the others who came out for the squad, promise a good future for the Priory wrestling teams, and if these young boys come out every year the team cannot help but be successful under the expert guidance of Mr. Lifrak.
