1968 Portsmouth Priory Wrestling Team
First Row: Anderton, Chase, Mariani;
Second Row: Callery, Unkovic, Spears, Regan, Burke:
Third Row: Hector, Kresock C., Barnes, Greene, Coach Lifrak, Reynolds, McShane (Capt.), Carney.
Despite the abundance of injuries this year, the Wrestling team bounced back after losing the first three matches to compile a most respectable record. The consistently superb performances of “Hunkie” Barnes, Bruce McShane, and Terry Callery gave the faithful fans the reassurance that the team would be able to make a successful combat. Captain McShane and Barnes made a habit of pinning their opponents within the first period, while Callery was known for his skill and agility. Joe Spears, Max Regan, John Burke, and Bill Reynolds, along with “Animal” Anderton provided the large crowds in the new wrestling room with plenty of excitement throughout the entire season.
The Raven grapplers indeed had a successful season, and much credit goes to McShane and Coach Lifrak who directed the team to an exciting record.
