Seven Portsmouth Abbey School Wrestlers Qualify for the 2020 NEISWA Championships

 

Portsmouth Abbey’s wrestling team had an impressive performance on February 5th, at the Eastern Independent League (EIL) wrestling tournament held at the Portsmouth Abbey School in Portsmouth, Rhode Island.  This is a qualifying event for the 2020 New England Independent School Wrestling Association (NEISWA) championships to be held on February 14-15th at the Hartford Armory, Hartford, Connecticut.
Eight EIL teams competed at the event with ninety-three wrestlers participating. All Portsmouth Abbey members of the team had the opportunity to compete in a minimum of two matches over the course of the tournament and 10 of our wrestlers vied for the top three podium finish.
Our 182 lbr and Capitan Owen B. received the Eastern Independent League outstanding wrestler of the year along with his 1st place finish in the EIL.
Coach Mike Mclarney said “Our Ravens wrestled very well and Portsmouth Abbey was able to place third overall at the tournament.  We also had 10 wrestlers who placed in the top three at the event in their weight bracket!”

• 170  – Darrell O. ‘22  – 3rd place
• 185  – Owen B. ‘20 Capt.  – 1st place
• 195  – Daniel M “20  – 2nd place
• 220  – Mauricio G ‘20  – 2nd place

 

Members of the team who finish in the top two are now qualified to participate in the 2020 New England Independent School Wrestling Association championships to be held on February 14-15th at the Hartford Armory, Hartford, Connecticut.
