Congratulations to our 4 Champion Portsmouth Abbey wrestling Ravens at the Eastern Independent League Championships Saturday, February 11, 2023. Captain Garrett Roskelly ’23 at 165 lb., Connor Lynn ’23 at 132 lb., Tommy O’Hara ’24 at 144 lb., and Sean Oh ’24 at 157. The Portsmouth Abbey placed third overall with the help of our other wrestlers, three finalists 2nd placers – Dino De Marzio ’26 at 106, Atticus Bonny ’24 at 150 lb., and Dahmaux Kouassi-Brou ’23 at 175, along with 4th place – Daniella Gasso ’24 at 106, Tiger Li ’24 at 165, and 4th-Harry Lunden’ 23 at 215 after some very hard-fought matches in the consolation rounds.
“My Portsmouth Abbey wrestlers continue to impress me with their tenacity. I am excited to see this team’s energy and commitment grow in our Abbey wrestling family every year, Coach Mike McLarney stated. And the top three schools at the EIL Championships all had four first-placer wrestlers.”
A recap of the Champion matches Connor Lynn, 132 lb. wrestled T. Petrokansky of Eagle Hill School and won his match 7-6. Tommy O’Hara, 144 lb., took on R. Skrivanek of Concord Academy with a 7-2 victory. Sean Oh, 157 lb., beat E. Rosa of Lexington Christian Academy to a final 6-1 win. And Garrett Roskelly was victorious with pins in all three matches finishing off with D. Villela of Eagle Hill with a pin in 56 seconds.
Our four champions, along with the three second-place wrestlers, will continue onto the New Englands Preps Saturday, Feb. 17-18, along with the Abbey Girls’ Division. 106-Daniela Gasso ’24, 120-Mary Adams ’24, 138-Waverly Compagone ’24, and 150-Merritt Coward ’23 will also be wrestling this coming weekend at Philips Andover, 180 Main St., Andover, MA 01810
