Portsmouth, RI. – 2023 Sixth-Form (senior) Portsmouth Abbey wrestler and Captain Garrett Roskelly has been awarded All-American Wrestler status with his performance at the NuWay Revolutions National Wrestling Tournament on June 25th, 2022.
Garrett, who lives in Portsmouth, Rhode Island, placed fourth at 167 lbs in the NuWay Revolutions National Tournament in Mansfield, MA – and earned the title of All-American. “While this is a great accomplishment, this is one step in my 13 years of wrestling, “This is my passion,” as I look forward to this year’s 2023 EIL Abbey wrestling competitions and continue wrestling in College.” States Garrett Roskelly
Garrett came to the Portsmouth Abbey wrestling team as a freshman with nine years of wrestling experience, starting wrestling at the age of 5 in the USA Rhode Island Wrestling League and making strides. His freshman 2020 varsity season was topped off with a hard-fought 2nd place in the EIL Champion tournament. And this past 2022 season, he won the EIL 195lb weight class well over his average weight and became an Eastern Independent League All-League Wrestler.
“Coach McLarney said when I saw Garrett wrestling back in the 8th grade at the USA New Englands Wrestling Championships, I observed his tenacity – and I knew it was the right choice to convince him to come to wrestle for the Portsmouth Abbey. We are all excited to congratulate Garrett on his All-American wrestler status. I see great things happening this season and in his college wrestling future.”
“Now, with all the years of practicing, club wrestling, private lessons, and tournaments, my body knows what to do & how to react to the other wrestlers’ moves! This Summer, I have again been part of the iron Faith Wrestling Club, practicing 2-3 times a week with tournaments on most weekends. So far this year, my overall High School wrestling record is 82 wins -with 60 of those by pin.” States Garrett
